DETAILS : The African Institute of Biomedical Science and Technology (AiBST) in collaboration with The National AIDS Council (NAC)Harare Metropolitan Province presents a course on HIV/AIDS Treatment, Monitoring and Evaluation – A Lab-Based Approach.
TARGET GROUP
Company doctors, nurse counsellors, HIV&AIDS Programme implementers (Programme Co-ordinators, Programme Officers, Home based care practitioners), laboratory scientists/technicians and all those involved in practical HIV/AIDS treatment, monitoring & evaluation.
COURSE CONTENT
(a) National Status of the pandemic, current WHO and Ministry of Health & Child Welfare Treatment Guidelines, available drugs and clinical challenges in their use
(b) Demonstrations of laboratory methods of anti-retroviral treatment (ART) monitoring: immune system evaluation, viral load determinations, and therapeutic drug monitoring
(c) Integration of current international guidelines and laboratory based monitoring in ART.
(d) Latest advances in ART and opportunities for treatment in Zimbabwe.
EXPECTED OUTCOMES:
(a) Thorough knowledge of current treatment guidelines, aspects of access to ART programmes, importance of adherence, Adverse Drug Reactions in the use of ARVs.
(b) Knowledge of where to access, the importance of and ability to interpret laboratory results for better ART.
(c) Source for information and update of latest advances in ART research.
