Award for Excellence in Reporting on Tuberculosis

The Stop TB Partnership and the Lilly MDR-TB Partnership have launched an award to recognize, foster and award outstanding reporting in print that materially increases the public's knowledge and understanding of tuberculosis (TB), including multidrug-resistant TB, in countries affected by the disease.

Eligibility
----------
The article selected for recognition must have been published between 1 March 2007 and 31 March 2008 in a general circulation newspaper, magazine or web news vehicle located in a low- or middle-income country*. Articles may be co-authored. The author(s) must be a resident of the country in which the article was published. A jury of experts will make selections.

Awards
------
There will be first, second and third place awards. First place: $3000 and a certificate. Second place: $2000 and a certificate. Third place: $1000 and a certificate. Reasonable travel expenses to the event at which the award will be presented will be reimbursed for the first place winner. Stop TB Partnership will administer all aspects of the award.

The deadline for the 2008 award entries is 30 April 2008.

First award ceremony
-------------
The winners of the 2008 awards will be announced in November 2008 on the occasion of the annual World Conference of the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease. Thereafter the awards will be conferred annually, also in November.

Rules for submission
-------------
General requirements: Each submission should include a completed entry form; a letter explaining how the work contributes to public awareness of TB; a statement of when and where the work appeared; and an electronic version of the article. Applicants may nominate themselves.

Languages: Entries may be submitted in Arabic, English, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish. An English-language version, if available, would be helpful but is not a requirement.

No Multiple Entries: A journalist may make only one entry to the contest each year.

Reprint Rights: Reprint rights are granted to the Stop TB Partnership and the Lilly MDR-TB Partnership for use in any vehicle and in translation into any language of their choosing by virtue of entry in this contest.
